4-Wheel Disc Brakes Conversion Problems
4-Wheel Disc Brakes Conversion Problems
Ive had an interesting experience with converting my cars rear drum brakes to disc brakes. The cars an AT170 Corona. Although the disc brakes from an AE92 also fit in this car but I fortunately found the original equipment stuff for a corona (shuba zindabad!!!). When we fitted the brakes to the car in the first place, we didnt find any difference in performance. Upon visual inspection I found that the rear discs were not locking. We resorted to routing one of the front brake oil pipe to rear and vice versa. Still no result. I decided to do away with the brake oil pressure proportioning valve altogether and put two splits on the pipe lines. SUCCESS!!! All four wheels were locking now! On the downside, the front brakes started jamming. After much poking around, it was found that the brake master cylinder was leaking. Got that changed. The brakes started working, but still no obvious performance upgrade could be noticed. This time, I connected the front oil line to a proportioning valve and left the split connected to the rear wheels. All four discs were grabbing nowbut they seemed to have a mind of their own. The car wouldnt come to a straight stop. At this point I decided that I had had enough and put the original drums back on the car. Now, ANYONE has any idea what was wrong, and what could have put it right???

Interesting experiment...
But I wouldn't recommend it on the brakes. For the simple reason that its a safety feature and if you mess with it without knowing what you are doing you might cause the brakes to fail and cause a serious accident.
I would recommend that you try and get hold of a factory service manual for your car and consult it so that you know exactly what parts you need to convert to 4 wheel disc.
I also plan to convert my exi to 4 wheel disc and I have the civic service manual so I know exactly what parts I need for the conversion.
