Air flow influence on Gas mileage

Air flow influence on Gas mileage

salam everyone,

i got my Khyber tuned last week....

Prior to tuning i used to get around 125 kms for 6.4 Kgs of gas (Without A/c) and after tuning it shot upto 165!!

The problem is that i had changed my Paksuzuki airfilter with another one made by Guard... this filter is slightly bigger than the gap provided in the air filter cavity.... resulting in a gap of a few millimeteres between the air filter base and air filter cover air filter cover, from which air seeps in.

Now heres the the crux...

when i drove with that gap... i got a decent mileage of 165 kms but rougher idling at lower rpms and snoring like noise at high rpms

when i covered it with insulation tape... fuel average dropped back to 125 Kms but smoother idling at lower revs and no snoring sound at higher revs....

Whats happening???

Should i let air seep in through the sides (its being filtered in both cases anyhow...)??

Then whats the purpose of the extension pipe??

Thanks

Restricting air flow is a shortcut for doing the tune up in lesser time. More air flow always give better mileage on cng but idle and other issues are difficult to handle. Yours is a representative case
