Are there any specific mechanical faults in Prius engines that cause excessive oil burning?

Many experts point to piston rings, valve seals, and PCV valve failures as major causes of oil consumption. How do these components affect oil burning, and what can be done to fix them without a complete engine overhaul?

Certain mechanical faults are known to cause excessive oil burning in the Toyota Prius:

Piston rings: Worn o r damaged piston rings allow oil to seep into the combustion chamber, where it gets burned along with the fuel.
Valve seals: Faulty valve seals can also lead to oil entering the combustion chamber, especially at higher engine speeds.
PCV valve failure: A clogged o r malfunctioning Positive Crankcase Ventilation PCV valve can lead to oil being pulled into the intake manifold, where it burns off.

Fixing the issue:

Piston rings and valve seals may require partial engine disassembly, but in some cases, replacing just these components can prevent a full engine rebuild.
PCV valve replacement is a relatively simple and cost-effective fix if this is the root cause.
