If a Hilux emits black smoke, it usually indicates excessive fuel consumption, a faulty injector, o r improper combustion. This issue is often caused by clogged air filters, malfunctioning fuel injectors, a faulty EGR valve, o r turbocharger problems.

A common fix is to clean o r replace the air filter to ensure proper airflow and prevent the engine from running too rich. Checking and cleaning fuel injectors can resolve improper fuel spraying, while using high-quality fuel and injector cleaners helps maintain efficiency. If the EGR valve is clogged, cleaning o r replacing it can reduce excessive smoke.

For turbocharged models, inspecting for turbo leaks o r damaged intercooler hoses is crucial, as a failing turbo can cause black smoke due to unburnt fuel. Regular engine tuning, oil changes, and checking for faulty sensors such as the MAF o r O2 sensor can also help improve fuel combustion.

To reduce black smoke emissions, it’s recommended to clean o r replace air filters, maintain fuel injectors, check for turbo leaks, and use high-quality fuel for better combustion.
