What's good for the Blue Devil is good for the Cadillac CTS-V. The next generation muscle-Caddy, in the 2009 model year are expected, along with the faster-than-Chevrolet Corvette Z06, also get the supercharged LS7 7.0-liter engine. While the Blue Devils, who will be named Z07, will be approximately 700 horsepower ("Trend," June) have, expect the engine slightly detuned for the CTS-V to about 600 horses.
That is still well above the number of competitors. The BMW M3 and Audi RS4 to get 420 hp and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG looks at about 503 hp, same as the CLK63 AMG Black Series that made its debut in the New York show.
On paper, the Z06's 505-hp, 7.0-liter has enough grunt to the CTS-V to give the edge over its European rivals. But the naturally aspirated Z06 engine is said to lack enough low-end torque for a car of the weight of the Cadillac. The Z06 weighs just over 3200 pounds, the new CTS-V will probably be the deciding factor about 3600.
Expected topics from the current Cadillac CTS-V by introducing the new model, including stiffer springs and shocks, meaty Brembo brakes, steering a quicker ratio, fender blisters, and lower front and rear spoilers, a grille, and strengthened for good seats.
