Some Prius owners complain of a strong fuel smell inside the cabin. How does a defective purge valve contribute to this issue, and what are the possible fixes?

Fuel Smell: If the purge valve is stuck open, fuel vapors can escape into the cabin, leading to a noticeable fuel smell inside the car.
Cause: The purge valves job is to direct fuel vapors from the gas tank to the engine. If it’s not functioning correctly, it may cause an abnormal release of fumes.
Fix: Replacing the faulty purge valve is the most effective solution. In some cases, cleaning the valve may temporarily reduce the smell but won’t be a long-term fix.
