Can a malfunctioning purge control valve trigger the Check Engine Light CEL in a Prius?

Many Prius users report the CEL turning on due to emission system faults. How can one confirm if the purge control valve is the reason for the warning light?

Yes: If the purge valve fails o r its performance is compromised, the ECU may trigger a diagnostic trouble code DTC related to the EVAP system, which will turn on the CEL. Common codes related to this are P0441 incorrect purge flow o r P0446 EVAP system vent control.
Confirmation: To confirm the purge valve is the issue, you can scan the car for trouble codes. If you see an EVAP-related code, its likely the purge valve is at fault.
