Well i can add a couple of reasons to the list.
-Stem seals have given away, a very common problem due to substandard quality of parts
-Cam shaft bolts (one or more ) have become loose, even brand new suzuki cars have faced this problem due to low quality control
-Direction of rings when assembling an engine is specified like non-thrust side and cut faces opposite direction in compression and oil rings, again due to poor quality control.

There could be a few more reasons but I'm not sure whether i master the complete list, MY QUESTION IS : Do you think a person with limited repair knowledge can evaluate the diagnosis or a engine overhaul specialist ? on what grounds will he challenge ?

My suggestion would be to get 2nd or even 3rd opinion when in doubt
