: CNG vs PETROL (SHOWDOWN!) :

All tests were run on a 96' Khyber, 'with 100% AC- OFF', with the latest CNG Italian Landirenzo Kit.

- The CNG Installation is tuned to give the same performance as the car running on Petrol.

The Fitted CNG Cylinder is 55L and on average has been filled with ~Rs 250 CNG @ 33.0 Rs/Kg.
Therefore on average ~7.58 Kg of CNG is filled on each run.

-- On average 7.58 Kg of CNG burns to cover a distance of ~ 100 Km
Therefore on average :-
96' Khyber with Stock G10 Consumes 250Rs/100km=2.5Rs/Km Worth of CNG.

-- On average on Petrol 96' Khyber with Stock G10 gives ~19Km/L. BUT to minimize critics and to consider minor random errors, lets say it goes 17km/L.
Therefore on average :-
96' Khyber with Stock G10 Consumes 57.86RS/17km=3.40Rs/km Worth of Petrol.

Therefore what we saved by a CNG Installation on a 96' Khyber is 3.40Rs/km- 2.50Rs/km=0.90Rs/km.

Note :-
The CNG Installation costed Rs 26,000. This does not include the cost of reinforced suspensions, the cost of cylinder holdings and welds ruining the boot and most of all The cost of CNG Installation ruining the real purpose of a hatchback. ( Not to mention the impossibility of taking the spare out ! )

0.90 Rs/km saving means that I have to drive ~28,889Km just to recover the cost! I say iT would take 30,000Km if we include the cost of suspensions also! ( This still does not include the other headacing costs and hidden costs that arise on a regular basis with an aftermarket CNG ).

In the end, I'd say it's totally BUSTED !!; Petrol still rules!!
If you detune your CNG to disallow your engine to give power you will get better mileage, ofcourse (this is what most of the CNG users and installers do!).
So............................. if you 'so' want better mileage and do not care about power DETUNE your car's engine and restrict it to give better economy rather then power whilst staying on Petrol!
This would be Better a hundred times then to get CNG and detune iT!.

Even iF CNG does save you something it isn'T enough !; I would say that it is Not by any means Cost-Effective. ( i.e. if you do a little maths and use a bit common sense ).

I hope the work done by our team shows clearly the real truth behind all this CNG crap!
CNG is an alternative fuel. When we run out of Petrol, we all will Run on CNG or still better Ehtanol . CNG is not meant to be more Economical or Cost-Effective. It's cleaner and Thats the ONLY major Postive Point I ever Got to know about iT !

This calculation and conclusion is based on the Data which I collected and THiS MiGHT NOT stand for All Vehicles of All makes and this MiGHT or MiGHT NOT show the Final Verdict or Conclusion which All the People might drive or get from their Vehicles.

BTW:- Please keep in mind that My car on CNG is Tuned to match Petrol's performance so Consumption of CNG will obviously be greater. In the test runs we matched the Performance attained on Petrol to CNG thus making comparison fare & square.
