While I haven’t personally experienced a crash in a Hilux, many owners report that it holds up well in accidents due to its strong ladder-frame chassis and reinforced body structure. However, crash test ratings vary by model and region, with newer versions offering better crumple zones, airbags, and electronic safety features like ABS, traction control, and stability control.

In real-world accidents, the Hilux’s durability protects occupants in low to moderate-speed crashes, but in high-speed impacts o r rollovers, the lack of advanced safety features in older models can be a concern. Many drivers upgrade with bull bars, roll cages, o r additional airbags for extra protection. Proper seatbelt use and defensive driving remain crucial for safety.
