Does the Toyota Prius have a traditional alternator, and how does it generate power?

Unlike conventional cars, the Prius doesn’t have a standard alternator. Instead, it relies on the hybrid system and inverter to generate power. How does this system work, and how is it different from a regular alternator?

Unlike conventional cars, the Toyota Prius does not have a traditional alternator. Instead, it uses a hybrid system with an inverter to generate power. The hybrid system is responsible for managing both the gasoline engine and the electric motor. Heres how it works:

The electric motor can act as a generator to charge the hybrid battery traction battery during braking o r when the engine is running.
The inverter is the key component that converts the DC direct current from the hybrid battery to AC alternating current for use by the electric motor and also converts it back when needed.
The DC-DC converter takes energy from the hybrid battery and uses it to charge the 12V auxiliary battery, which powers the car’s smaller electrical systems like lights, infotainment, and the ECU Electronic Control Unit.
