Difficulty shifting into reverse in manual Hilux models is often caused by a worn clutch, misadjusted linkage, o r internal gearbox issues. If the clutch doesn’t fully disengage, the gears won’t mesh smoothly, leading to grinding o r resistance.

Common causes include low o r contaminated transmission fluid, a failing clutch master/slave cylinder, o r worn synchros. A temporary fix is to shift into first gear before reverse to help align the gears. A clutch fluid check, bleeding the system, o r adjusting the clutch pedal can resolve minor issues, while severe cases may require clutch o r gearbox repairs.

Regular clutch maintenance and proper gear shifting techniques help prevent long-term problems.
