Engine Number confusion

Engine Number confusion

Salam,

I recently faced a problem and i guess everyone does who's searching for a 2nd hand engine in kabarh market.lemme explain the problem,
I went to bilal gunj (lahore) in search of a honda engine for a frd's car.The car is civic 2000 exi.In bilal gunj the shopkeepers showed us different engines, which were tagged as D15B, and almost every engine shown to us had same tag.when i googled D15B i found like 9 variants of same engine with power range from 70bhp to 130bhp.
Now the question is,how to determine the origin (donor car) of such engines,as shopkeepers usually don't have any info regarding the donor car expect kah yeh Japani hai or yeh American.

IMHO 1.5 litre Honda engine will only be producing 130 bhp if it is a vtec. So just check if there's a vtec solenoid on it. Make sure you don't buy it because it won't be compatible with your non-vtec ECU. It will run but at 5500 rpm, it will be 'confused' because by default it will wait for a command from ECU to engage the second cam, but there will be no command as the ECU is non-Vtec.

Changing the ECU+Wiring would cost you alot later...later if you'll try finding a compatible VTec ECU, it will cost you upto 20k.
