Engine Oil Change

Engine Oil Change

Its been a perception that changing oil frequently or earlier is better for engine, i have seen people being proud of doing an engine oil change at 2000 - 3000 km.

In no car manual i've seen this recommendation, is it so? Or what do you suggest is the best time to change engine oil and does it vary if its summer or winter?

In the US, most manufactures recommend oil change at 3,000 miles (4828 Kms). Keep in mind that I said most not all. It also depends on the oil that you use. Synthetic oils last longer. Mobil1 is marketing oils that last for 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 miles. In any case, you should follow manufacturers recommendation if you want your power train warranty to stay effective. I personally believe that changing oil at 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first, is a safe bet. The tolerances in modern engines are so tight that it is very important to keep surfaces lubricated with clean oil or proper viscosity.
