Engine Revving Issue in Toyota Aqua
Engine Revving Issue in Toyota Aqua
Assalam o Alaikum everyone,
Lately, I’ve been practicing the Pulse & Glide technique with my 2014 Toyota Aqua to improve fuel efficiency. Most of the time, the car responds well to the throttle pulse, reaching the desired speed, followed by throttle release and a slight press to enter glide mode. I’ve seen improvements in my average fuel consumption.
However, recently, I’ve encountered an issue. After releasing the throttle following a pulse, the engine revs up on its own, and I’m unable to engage the glide mode with a partial throttle press. Even when the battery is fully charged, the car refuses to enter glide o r switch to EV mode at any speed. The engine revs on throttle release, but it has no effect on acceleration.
The strange part is that, during my next drive, the car returns to its normal behavior, and the Pulse & Glide technique works again as expected.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions on what could be causing this behavior o r how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Wa Alaikum Assalam,
The issue youre describing could be related to the hybrid system o r a malfunction in the throttle response. If the car revs up after releasing the throttle and refuses to enter glide mode, the problem might be with the battery management system o r the transition between the electric motor and the gasoline engine. The system might not be properly shifting into electric-only mode o r glide due to fluctuations in power demand o r the battery’s charge state.
Another possibility is a faulty throttle position sensor o r ECU calibration. If the sensor isn’t reading the throttle correctly, it could cause unexpected engine revs o r failure to engage glide mode.
You should consider getting a diagnostic scan to check for any error codes in the system. A mechanic may need to check the hybrid control system, throttle sensors, and ensure that the ECU is properly calibrated.
Addressing the issue as soon as possible will help avoid any further complications and restore normal performance.
