Ethanol fuel from brazil (They Dont Need Patrol)

hats wat i ve seen on CNN tonight, Brazilian and Americans are producing new form of fuel (new for us). I think they started this in 1970. This fuel is extratcted from Sugar canes. Here is an article from wikipedia:

In Brazil, ethanol fuel is produced from sugar cane which is a more efficient source of fermentable carbohydrates than corn as well as much easier to grow and process. Brazil has the largest sugarcane crop in the world, which, besides ethanol, also yields sugar, electricity, and industrial heating. Sugar cane growing requires little labor, and government tax and pricing policies have made ethanol production a very lucrative business for big farms. As a consequence, over the last 25 years sugarcane has become one of the main crops grown in the country.

Yes its an ingenious method of fuel production.
Members would be glad to know that Pakistan Railways is working on an alternate fuel too, bio - diesel. Its made from extracts of various seeds and they intend to run thier engines on it. Saw a demostration in which they ran a 2.0D on it, seemed to work quite well.
Thier was another conference at SSuet in which a scientist made a proposal for local production of such fuel, though i don't know how well it fared..given that sugar production in pakistan is quite limited
