Many Hilux diesel owners experience clogged Diesel Particulate Filters DPFs, leading to warning lights, reduced performance, and higher fuel consumption. This issue occurs when soot and ash build up in the filter, especially during frequent short trips o r low-speed driving.

To prevent DPF clogging, it’s recommended to drive at highway speeds above 60 km/h for at least 20–30 minutes regularly, allowing the DPF to regenerate and burn off soot. Using low-sulfur diesel fuel and high-quality engine oil also helps reduce excessive soot buildup.

For DPF cleaning, some owners use DPF cleaner additives that help burn off deposits. If the filter is severely clogged, a forced regeneration at a dealership o r workshop may be required. In extreme cases, the DPF may need to be removed and professionally cleaned o r replaced.

To maintain DPF health, it’s best to drive at highway speeds regularly, use high-quality fuel and oil, and perform periodic DPF regeneration. If warning lights appear, addressing the issue early can prevent costly repairs.
