Have You Used a Leak Stop Additive in Your Hilux’s Transmission?

Some people use stop-leak products instead of repairing the leak. Have you tried one, and did it work o r cause further issues?

Stop-leak products are a temporary fix for minor transmission leaks, but they are not a long-term solution. Some Hilux owners have tried them, with mixed results. In minor leaks, these products can slow o r temporarily seal the leak, but they may also thicken the transmission fluid, reducing its ability to lubricate and cool components. Over time, this can clog small passages, affect shifting smoothness, and lead to bigger transmission issues.

For a proper fix, it’s best to identify the exact leak source—whether it’s the pan gasket, seals, o r cooler lines—and replace the faulty component instead of relying on stop-leak additives. If used, it should only be a temporary measure until a proper repair is done.
