Heater problem

Heater problem

I'm having problem with my 2C corolla diesel engine. My car was having problems starting, I got it checked from a mechanic and he said all the heaters needed to be replaced. For the meantime he gave me a wire that "I hook up to the positive terminal and connect with 'one of the heaters' for a few seconds (5-7 seconds) and then the car starts fine"

What I don't understand is, if my heaters are out of order as my mechanic says, then how come they work fine when i directly hook them up with my battery!!!

Please Help in coming at a solution because I think my heaters are fine and just the heater cutout needs to be replaced......

You can simply install a push button instead of timer,at the time of starting just press the push button for ten seconds then start the engine.
Be careful, never press the push button for a long time in a single attempt, otherwise heater can be fused.
