How can Prius owners diagnose refrigerant leaks in their A/C system?

One of the main causes of poor cooling is low refrigerant levels due to leaks. What are the best methods to check for leaks, and is it safe to use leak detection kits o r UV dye in the Prius?

Diagnosing refrigerant leaks involves:

Visual Inspection: Look for oil stains o r greasy spots around the A/C components compressor, condenser, hoses, which can indicate refrigerant leaks.
UV Dye and Leak Detection Kits: Use a UV dye kit, which is added to the refrigerant. A special UV light will highlight any leaks.
Pressure Test: A refrigerant pressure test can help determine if there’s low pressure in the system, which would point to a leak.
Listen for Hissing: A hissing sound near the A/C components could indicate a refrigerant leak.
