Pakistan’s hot climate places considerable stress on the engine and cooling system, including the radiator, leading to a higher likelihood of radiator leaks. Here’s how extreme temperatures contribute to this issue:

a. Overheating of the Cooling System:
In high heat, the engine temperature rises, which can cause the radiator to overheat, especially if the cooling system isn’t functioning optimally. When the radiator overheats, it expands and contracts due to thermal cycles, leading to potential cracks, weak points, and eventually leaks. This is particularly problematic in Pakistan during the summer months, where temperatures can easily exceed 40°C 104°F.

b. Pressure Build-Up in the Radiator:
Excessive heat can also lead to increased pressure in the cooling system. If the pressure exceeds the tolerance of the radiator, it may cause the radiator to burst o r develop a leak at the seams o r welds. This problem is worsened by constant stop-and-go traffic, which increases engine load and heat generation.

c. Deterioration of Radiator Materials:
Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can cause materials used in the radiator such as plastic and rubber seals to degrade over time. This degradation can weaken the radiator’s integrity, making it more prone to leaks. In Pakistan, where vehicles are often on the road for extended periods in intense heat, this issue is common.

Preventative Measures:

Ensure that the radiator is filled with the proper coolant mixture 50% coolant and 50% distilled water.
Replace the radiator cap and hoses when needed to maintain the correct pressure.
Ensure proper maintenance of the cooling system to avoid overheating, such as cleaning the radiator fins and ensuring adequate airflow.
