A clogged catalytic converter can severely impact performance and fuel efficiency:

Reduced acceleration: The exhaust flow is restricted, causing sluggish acceleration and a noticeable decrease in engine power.
Engine overheating: The clogged converter traps exhaust gases, causing heat to build up in the engine, which can lead to engine damage over time.
Increased fuel consumption: The engine has to work harder to push exhaust gases through the clogged converter, leading to higher fuel consumption.

Diagnostic tips:

Check for backpressure in the exhaust system.
Perform a visual inspection for physical damage o r corrosion.
Use an OBD-II scanner to check for P0420 error codes Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold, which can point to converter issues.
