Regular transmission fluid changes are crucial for maintaining the Hilux’s transmission health, preventing overheating, gear slipping, and long-term damage. Most owners follow the manufacturer’s recommendation, typically every 40,000 to 60,000 km for automatic transmissions and every 60,000 to 80,000 km for manual variants. However, severe driving conditions, such as frequent towing o r off-roading, may require earlier fluid changes.

For the automatic transmission, Toyota ATF WS World Standard fluid is commonly used, while manual transmissions often require GL-4 o r GL-5 gear oil. Using the correct fluid type, checking for discoloration brown o r burnt smell, and ensuring proper fluid levels can significantly extend transmission life and prevent costly repairs.
