Running engine on idle speed (~800 rpm) is not at all a good idea (for any purpose). I see many people who go abroad and leave car keys with neighbours etc. who run the engine for a small while everyday.

Usually the oil pump, water body, A/C compressor and dynamo come to full performance at high RPMs (not exactly redline, but more like cruising speed ~1500-3500 rpm). Most of the people who leave keys with their neighbours/drivers come back to find their batteries are dead. This is because battery doesn't charge at idle speed.

It would be a good idea to take a small trip around your neighbourhood in order to flush the tappets with oil, bring battery to full charge and complete thorough circulation of coolant so any rust particles are dislodged. This would also allow the fuel in the tank to slosh about and dissolve any guck/grime buildup which could otherwise become a very nasty problem. This would also dislodge any cobwebs, cockroach/mouse/cat housing societies on the underside of body and give a little exercise to powertrain components e.g. gearbox and wheel bearings. If you keep the windows open during your trip the air will be refreshed and sunlight will come in and any chances of mold etc. building up e.g. on seat cover leather will diminish.

By above paragraph I mean that to keep the car in proper working condition you need to take care of all these factors rather than only the battery.
