How to increase HP?
Salam,
I have Datsun 120Y...1976 model with Standard A12 engine. and got complete engine overhaul with genuine parts(which are said to be genuine but i dont think so) availabe in the RWP market but still m not satisfied with its pick. I have read in an article on the web that Satndard A12 and A12 GX engines have same bore, same stroke, on the other side Standard A12 has 68hp but A12 GX has 83 hp... here is the link
can i convert/modify Satndard A12 to A12GX?
If yes then please suggest which extra parts will be installed in this setup...
and what would be the cost ?

By locking at the specifications I think there is some difference in head configuration as compression ratio in A12GX is 10 and A12 is 9.
I think it would be almost impossible to find a GX head although u can always increase the compression ratio by shaving your head (recomended if u want more performance) although be ready to upgrade your cooling system and change in carb for fuel requirement accordingly.
As the specifications also show that the peak hp and torque are on the higher rpm so this could be done by making the cams more aggressive you could further increase the hp (although I dont have any practucal experience on that). Also porting the air intake manifold could further increase ur hp.
However I found a very useful article for you.
Some conclusions that are feasible are as follows:
1. There is no big difference between the head and block.
2. To make your engine close to A12GX do the folloing changes
a. Get your intake ports polished (Can be done from a good kharadia and ask him to polish interior of the intake manifold)
b. Get 4-2-1 headers.
c. Add a intake for carbs u could get it from no limit performance f-10 markaz and dubai autos mus cost around Rs. 2000.
Head shaving is also good. If you could get double carbs make it.
Any queries are welcome.
