How to lower the ride?

hey guyz, i want to lower my car bt i dun no how exactly lowering is to done ! What is the process of lowering ? like i have to change the shocks of my car or else ?
I have cultus 06.
Some one told me that you have to cut the shocks n thats it ! Isn't it ?
Guyz help me out in order to figure out my problem.

DO NOT cut your springs or shocks

when lowering your car you must get springs which are designed to work on your car.

on lowering springs the rating will be either upgraded or progressive, whereas cut springs can & will pop out of place when the suspension is unloaded (have seen it many times). also the ride will ebcome thrashy and the car WILL it it's bump stops and bottom out alot.

sadly it seems that with most things for your car, you can do it the right way or the local way.
