My car has the following gear layout and im going to explain according to it. but dont worry there is not much difference in others too.

P
R
N
D
2=D2=L2=S (yo shay de)
L=L1

Afridia wrora khabara daasay do kana chay......normally these days automatic cars have 4 speed transmission i.e. 4 forward gears. While in normal driving conditions i.e. city driving, highways etc. the O/D should always be turned on and in such condition the indication light for O/D is off and vice versa...ulta kisaa da, O/D on light off.. What O/D does is that when it is turned off, the gear wont shift up to the final gear i.e. 4th gear...now the question is when to turn it off? its simple, when u r going to some hill station and the road is ascending, u dont want ur car to shift up to the final gear, simply turn it off. it will also help u not to use ur brakes very often preventing them from getting hot while u r coming down a descending road. but keep in mind that O/D off alone wont work well in steeper descents. for that purpose we have the "2" and "L" gears. while in "2" a car will only shift between 1st n 2nd gears, no 3rd no 4th and it is helpful in saving ur brakes by using engine power to slow down the car. finally in "L" the car only uses 1st gear, no 2nd no 3rd no 4th..but keep in mind that its always better to completely stop ur car before shifting into any gear or at the most at or below 20 km/h. i hope oss pay orasayday.. good luck n shift wisely
