Driving a Hilux in heavy rain o r floods can be challenging, with risks of hylaning, skidding, and reduced braking efficiency. While the Hilux’s weight and all-terrain tyres offer better stability, waterlogged roads and slippery surfaces can still cause loss of traction.
To stay safe in wet conditions, I take the following precautions:
Reduce speed to prevent hylaning.
Avoid sudden braking o r sharp turns to maintain control.
Use headlights and fog lights for visibility.
Keep a safe following distance as braking distances increase.
Check tyre tread depth and pressure for optimal grip.
Avoid deep water crossings unless necessary, and ensure the air intake is safe from water ingress.
Defensive driving and well-maintained tyres significantly reduce the risk of skidding o r hylaning during heavy rain and floods.
