Ignition Timing

Dear fellows,

what can be the effects on enigne performance and health if you retard inigtion timing slighty below the recommended factory default.

ofcourse not to a point where it will start to lose pick and performance.

my observation is that the car engine runs more smooth and calmly if you retard it slighty.

any comments over this from experts are welcome.
