Is it better to repair o r replace the engine if the oil consumption becomes too high?

If a Prius engine burns too much oil, some owners consider an engine swap instead of repairs. In Pakistan, is it more practical to rebuild the engine, replace key components, o r swap it entirely? What are the cost implications of each option?

The decision to repair o r replace the engine depends on the severity of the issue and the cost of repairs:

Engine repair: Rebuilding the engine o r replacing worn components like piston rings, valve seals, and the PCV valve can be a cost-effective solution if done promptly. In Pakistan, rebuilding the engine is often more practical than replacing it entirely, as it is significantly cheaper.
Engine replacement: If the engine has sustained significant damage o r is too costly to repair, replacing it with a refurbished engine o r new one may be necessary. However, this is usually a last resort due to high costs.

Cost implications:

Rebuilding the engine replacing piston rings, valve seals typically costs PKR 30,000 to 70,000 depending on the extent of the repairs.
Engine replacement buying a new o r refurbished engine can cost upwards of PKR 100,000 o r more, making it less practical for many owners.

By following regular maintenance schedules and addressing issues early, Prius owners can minimize excessive oil consumption and ensure the longevity of their vehicles.
