Grinding, whining, o r clunking noises from the Hilux transmission can indicate worn-out transmission fluid, damaged gears, faulty bearings, o r issues with the torque converter.

A whining sound often suggests low o r contaminated transmission fluid, which can cause poor lubrication and increased friction—checking and replacing the fluid can help. A grinding noise may indicate damaged gears o r synchronizers in manual transmissions, often requiring gearbox repair o r clutch replacement. A clunking sound can be due to worn-out universal joints U-joints, faulty mounts, o r loose transmission components.

To prevent major failures, it’s essential to regularly check transmission fluid levels, inspect mounts and bearings, and service the gearbox at recommended intervals.
