Transmission overheating in the Hilux can occur due to heavy towing, high ambient temperatures, low o r degraded transmission fluid, o r a failing transmission cooler. Overheating can lead to slipping gears, delayed shifts, and long-term damage if not addressed.

To prevent overheating, many owners install an auxiliary transmission cooler for better heat dissipation, especially when towing o r driving in extreme heat. Regularly checking and replacing transmission fluid ensures proper lubrication and cooling. Avoiding aggressive driving, excessive idling, and using lower gears on steep inclines can also help reduce strain on the transmission.

If overheating occurs, allowing the transmission to cool down, checking fluid levels, and inspecting the cooling system can prevent severe damage.
