Lotus Elise - 2ZZ-GE?

Lotus Elise - 2ZZ-GE?

I've heard that Lotus is also using the same 2ZZ-GE from Celica??

Is it true?

Toyota and lotus go way back. In 1982 Toyota had launched the 2.8 Celica-Supra and the car wasn't selling, so Lotus fine tuned the suspension for the CSupra, distinguishable by the flared arches and bigger wheels straight off the Lotus Elcat. Furthermore Toyota owned 1/4 of lotus from 1987 to 1992. Their collaboration extended with Lotus helping toyota out with AW11 MR2 as well (mid engine layout, hello!). There was also significant Toyota intervention in various Lotus models such as the Espirit S4. Note the upside down rear combination lamps off a Toyota Levin AE-86 and the pop ups off a Mark II Supra.
The Elise S1 indeed uses the 2ZZ-GE but the ECU is Lotus developed in collaboration with EFI technologies. There' a supercharged varients as well putting out 234hp.
