Need urgent help regarding Shock absorbers

I want to buy used shock absorbers for my lancer 1990 model, both front and rear shocks from shershah market, kindly tell me how to check them, i remember there was some kind of checking trick, if u push the shocks i.e when u compress it, the shock will come back to its original position by it self, but im not sure if this was the trick to check the shocks or not, kindly help me out and give me tips to select better quality shocks.

While u pushing the shaft into the cylender,u must feel resistance and also while u pulling the shaft back, u must feel the resistance.

If shaft moves easily,it means shocks are bad.But be careful, also visually inspect the shocks for any welded spot,becoz some cheater drill the cylender to inject the oil to make the shocks good.
