New spark plugs gaps are set by default ?

hey all ,
My mechanic was telling me very interesting thing about spark plugs i thought i would share this with u all he might be giving me false information so i thought i will make it sure with our experts here , any new spark plugs in my case i am talking about denso or ngk when we buy them the new one needs gap adjustment aswell i found it very hard to believe because why on earth company making those new spark plugs like this that we still need a mechanic to measure thier gaps again so basically we need to buy them and than go to mechanic and he will charge us again just to make thier gaps reshape i found this very strange please share your observation or knowledge thanks in advance .

dear,
i think the same plug can be used in many cars butt every car may have different plug gap requirements. thats why u and me to get plug gap adjusted according to ur and mine requirements.
i think u got my point. pl correct me if i am wrong, take care
