Practicing Pulse & Glide driving technique for more mileage. Engine revs up on its own, when Pedal released

Hi dear members
I own a 2014 model Toyota Aqua. I am currently practicing the Pulse and Glide technique in my car now a days. It obeys a throttle pulse to a desired speed, throttle release and partial throttle press for achieving glide mode mostly. The car started giving better average but after a pulse when throttle is escaped, the engine starts reversing its own and cannot get the glide by pressing the throttle partially. This also occurs when the battery is fully charged. The car cannot switch to EV mode and cannot go to glide as well. This does not happen even at any speed i.e. low o r high. On the next drive, car obeys Pulse and Glide and starts behaving normally. I am unable to know why this actually happening. Kindly guide and help me in this regard.
