Shockabsorbers info needed

Although i've used both, and have heard about both too, but somehow i am never clear on the precise differences between gas-filled shocks and oil-filled shocks. i mean, what are the applications for both? is there a difference in performance? i am using oil filled shocks right now, what benefit, or drawbacks, would i get if i replace them with gas-filled ones?

shock absorbers are actually dampers, if they are not present then vehicle would go on bouncing ( due to coil springs).
oil filled dampers contain oil and when compressed oil gets hot and one property of liquid is that it forms foam when heated, therefore it reduces the damping ability. hence nitrogen gas is employed in gas filled dampers with no such issues what oil filled dampers gave. it all means gas filled dampers are efficient in all circumstances.
btw, oil filled dampers are serviceable unlike gas filled ones.
