My experience says overhaul of out of market cars is not a piece of cake because of the cost factor. Swaping with the same engine is a feasible option if u can find one with low mileage.
If going for a overhaul first of all find out whether parts for a complete overhaul of ur car's engine r available in the market. These include Piston set, Piston rods, Piston Rings set, Piston Pins, Valves set (guides included), Main & Big End bearings, Thrust washers, Timing belt/chain components n timing gears, complete Gasket set etc etc. Get a quotation for these parts, add charges of mechanic n lathe. After arriving at final cost make the decision.
