Steel Rim Center Grinding

How important is the centre of a steel rim in terms of providing strength and integrtity?

Problem at hand is that i have a set of 4 rims with me which have a slighty small center fitting then the ones which are intended to be replaced.

I was thinking of getting the center grinded to make it fit but then thought that it might affect overall strength and integrity of the wheel/rim. I thought of this because the center is folded outwards on sides and its not just a hole. I hope i am clear.

Here after market wheels comes with universal center. wheel shop grind them to make bigger centre to fit on ur car or use centre cap to reduce the centre. It should not be any problem.
