Suzuki Jimny Turbo Chirping and Whistling Sound Issue

Suzuki Jimny Turbo Chirping and Whistling Sound Issue

Ive been noticing some strange noises coming from the turbo on my Suzuki Jimny. It starts making chirping and whistling sounds when the boost range is between 0 and 2 psi. The turbo in my car is an IHI RHB31 with a VZ9 housing.

Interestingly, once the boost exceeds 2 psi, the noises stop and the turbo sounds normal as it spools up. Under wide-open throttle, it develops around 10 psi, and under moderate to heavy load, it produces 7-9 psi. Other than the noise issue, the turbo seems to be working fine without any noticeable problems.

I suspect that there might be a gasket seal failure either on the intake o r exhaust side of the compressor. This could be causing vibrations and making the turbo behave like a reed instrument. However, Im uncertain if this indicates that my turbo is on the brink of failure. Im considering getting it checked by a professional to determine the exact cause and whether any repairs o r replacements are necessary? Can You Help Me Out!

It might be a gasket issue on the exhaust side, especially if the sound is high-pitched and really loud.
