Temperature gauge issue

hi guys !

Yesterday i forget to put radiator cap on radiator as i was reflling the radiator.

I drove car to about 5 to 6 kms and suddenly i opened my car bonut and found no cap.

Just wanted to ask car temprature gauge was normal as told by machenic that if the radiator has low coolant lever or no water the gauge donot work as the water donot touches the sensor.

Is this true plozz guide me

yes because most japanese cars utilise a water temperature sensor and not a metal temperature sensor like european cars have
