Toyota Belta AC compressor problem

I have a Toyota Belta and I am facing an issue with my car. Once I was driving my car and did short stops and was turning ac on and off whenever I stopped driving. Suddenly, the car shut down when I turned the ac on. The car stopped at the same time when the compressor starts to kick in. The car shut down when I switched on Ac again and again and it seem that the car is missing at low rpm which shut down the car.
I visited the auto workshop and check the car with a mechanic. He said that the ac compressor of the car would be changed. He asked to install the Corolla car ac compressor. And told me the price was 22k Rs and said there is no other option. This fault occurred due to my own mistake as I have not serviced the ac since last summer. Kindly tell me. Can I avail other options to get rid of this issue like refilling the gas would sort this out? Servicing it....cleaning the condenser...or anything else? Kindly assist me to fix this issue. Thanks.
