Toyota Hilux Diesel vs. Petrol – Which One Has Better Fuel Economy?

For those who have driven both diesel and petrol Hilux models, how do they compare in terms of fuel efficiency? Which one offers better mileage in Pakistani road conditions?

In my experience, the diesel Hilux generally offers better fuel efficiency compared to the petrol model, especially in the context of Pakistani road conditions. Diesel engines tend to be more fuel-efficient than petrol engines because diesel has a higher energy content per liter, and diesel engines are designed to extract more power from that fuel.

On the roads in Pakistan, where you often encounter a mix of highway, city traffic, and sometimes rough terrains, the diesel Hilux performs better when it comes to mileage. Diesel engines are typically more fuel-efficient under load, which is great for the Hilux, especially if youre carrying heavy cargo o r towing. Given the higher torque that diesel engines provide, they also tend to handle these situations more efficiently without using excessive fuel.

On the other hand, the petrol Hilux can offer a slightly smoother driving experience and quicker acceleration, but it doesnt quite match the fuel efficiency of the diesel version, particularly on long drives o r when the vehicle is loaded. In urban driving, the difference in fuel efficiency might not be as noticeable, but on longer trips o r with heavier usage, the diesel model clearly outperforms the petrol one in terms of mileage.

In Pakistani conditions, where fuel prices and road conditions can vary, the diesel Hilux is generally seen as more economical in the long run, especially if you’re covering long distances o r carrying heavy loads regularly. However, if your driving is mostly short trips o r city driving with minimal load, a petrol Hilux might still be a viable option.

From what I’ve heard from others who have driven both, the diesel engine is typically the go-to choice for better fuel economy, especially when you need the extra torque and efficiency for work purposes o r long-distance driving. Have you driven both versions, o r do you have a preference for one over the other based on fuel efficiency?
