A failing fuel cap may show the following symptoms:

Check Engine Light CEL: A loose o r faulty cap can trigger a diagnostic trouble code DTC related to the EVAP system.
Fuel Smell Around the Vehicle: A cracked o r loose cap allows fuel vapors to escape.
Difficulty Tightening the Cap: If the cap doesn’t click into place securely, it may be damaged.
Reduced Fuel Efficiency: While minimal, fuel loss due to evaporation can occur.
Whistling o r Hissing Sound: If the cap isn’t sealing properly, air might escape when opening the cap.

If you notice any of these issues, it’s best to inspect and replace the fuel cap if necessary.
