What is Distributor less ignition or coil on plug

What is Distributor less ignition or coil on plug

Dear Sirs

Assalam o Alaikum

Can anyone please explain me what is meant by coil on plug or distributor less ignition ?

Can I install it on my Carby Accord, or else what can i do to improve the ignition and spark system.

Thanks

Dunt install bhaiya. Baleno is a very example of this system.
Some things I found online about Baleno i wud like to share

WITH "WASTE SPARK" DIS ignition systems
Copyright AA1Car

If you drive a late model vehicle that a distribution less ignition system (DIS) has Autolite Spark engineers say you can not use regular copper core spark plugs, or "single" platinum spark plugs on these applications. NOTE: This only applies to engines that a "waste spark" DIS ignition engines do not have a separate coil for each cylinder and spark plugs, or motors that have a distributor.

A waste spark DIS ignition coil used one for every two cylinders. Each coil fires once every revolution of the crankshaft, and sends a spark to two cylinders simultaneously compared. It's called a "waste spark" system, because only a spark ignites the air / fuel mixture (in the cylinder, which is on its compression stroke). The other spark occurs in a cylinder which is opposte the first cylinder in its firing order, and does nothing, because the spark occurs in cylinder exhaust stroke.

Classification of waste SPARK DIS IGNITION SYSTEM

You can tell if your engine has a waste spark DIS ignition system by counting the number of coils, then comparing the number of turns to the number of cylinders of the engine. For example, if your engine has three rollers and a V6, the coils are shared and it's a waste spark system. If there are six roles, is not it a waste spark system.

While many technicians and do-it-yourselfers believe that copper core plugs can be used in waste spark DIS ignition systems, Autolite says is not true. Ordinary copper spark plugs can also be primarily the function, but the electrodes will cause premature wear and eventually lead to ignition misfire.

Unlike conventional ignition systems, waste spark DIS ignition systems use half the spark to fire the spark unconventional opposite from the electrode on the side toward the center electrode. Copper core standard copper core plugs and some platinum spark plugs are not designed to withstand this reverse polarity and will cause premature firing gap growth due to the center electrode eroded. Gap growth will emphasize ignition parts by requiring more tension to the fire, eventually leading to misfire, loss of performance and fuel economy. This degradation can be noticeable as soon as 20,000 miles after the plug is installed. NOTE: Ignition misfire, the Check Engine light comes on.

Many motorists do not realize that very few new vehicles still copper core spark plugs, and those that do, such as the Chrysler 5.7 Hemi V8, has a 30,000-mile spark plug change.

That is why installing a premium spark plug with platinum on both electrodes or an iridium electrode is recommended for waste spark DIS-engine applications. Double platinum and iridium plugs plugs are designed for engines with a CIS systems and are 30 percent more durable than the average spark plug. The platinum-to-platinum firing offers virtually no space and erosion performance that lasts up to 100,000 miles.
