2004–2009 Prius models: These early hybrid models tend to suffer more from high oil consumption. The 1.5L engine in these models, in particular, is known for issues related to excessive oil burning.
2010–2015 Prius models: Although slightly better than the earlier models, some units in this range may also experience oil consumption issues, especially if regular maintenance is not followed.

The primary engine-related issue leading to oil consumption in these models is usually due to worn-out piston rings o r faulty valve seals, which allow oil to seep into the combustion chamber.
