Why do Toyota Prius power door locks sometimes make a clicking sound but don’t lock o r unlock?

Some Prius owners hear clicking noises from the door but the lock doesn’t move.
Could this indicate a weak door lock actuator, damaged gears, o r electrical relay issues?
How can Prius owners troubleshoot and repair this problem cheaply?

A clicking sound with no movement usually indicates:

Weak Actuator: The actuator motor might be running but unable to fully engage the lock mechanism.
Damaged Gears: The gears inside the actuator may have worn out.
Electrical Relay Issue: The relay controlling the actuator might not be sending power correctly.

Fix:

Test the actuator motor by applying direct voltage to see if it works.
Inspect the lock mechanism for obstructions o r signs of wear.
