Why does the steering wheel feel stiff o r unresponsive in some Prius models?

Some Prius owners notice increased steering resistance, especially at low speeds. What could be the reasons behind this, such as low battery voltage, EPS sensor faults, o r software-related issues?

Stiff o r unresponsive steering in the Prius may be caused by several factors:

Low 12V battery voltage: If the 12V battery is weak o r failing, it can lead to a reduction in power to the EPS motor, resulting in stiff steering.
EPS sensor faults: The steering angle sensor o r torque sensor could be malfunctioning, causing the system to provide inconsistent assistance.
Software o r electrical glitches: In some cases, software issues in the EPS control unit may cause power steering assist to intermittently.
Worn-out EPS motor: A weakening motor can struggle to provide proper steering assistance, especially when the car is moving slowly o r idling.

Solution: Regular battery checks and maintaining the electrical system can help prevent this issue. If the steering problem persists, have the EPS system checked for faults.
