Proton X70 Overview

The Proton X70 is a C-segment crossover SUV produced by the Malaysian car maker, Proton. In partnership with the Al-Haj Group, the X70 was first launched in Pakistan as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) but has since been locally produced starting in June 2021. This first-gen subcompact SUV, introduced in 2018, is Proton's first SUV and has received positive reviews and awards in Asian markets. In Pakistan, the 2024 Proton X70 is available in two variants: Proton X70 AWD Executive and Proton X70 FWD Premium.

Proton X70 2024 Exterior

The 2024 Proton X70 features a tiger-inspired design with a sleek appearance. The front boasts Proton's iconic "infinite weave grille" and is paired with LED projector headlamps and DRLs. The front fog lamps turn on automatically when turning and the headlamps come with the "follow me home" feature. The car also boasts welcome lights that add to its beauty. Additionally, the front has auto rain-sensing wipers and the rear includes a power tailgate. The Premium 2WD is topped off with a panoramic sunroof.

Proton X70 2024 Interior

The 2024 Proton X70 boasts a spacious and comfortable interior. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has controls for audio, hands-free telephone, and cruise control and offers Normal and Sport steering modes. Behind the wheel is a 7-inch high-def LCD meter display that provides key information to the driver. Both variants feature intelligent entry and a push-start button. The Executive AWD's interior is leather-wrapped while the Premium 2WD's is covered in Nappa Leather.

The driver's seat can be adjusted in 6 ways in both models, and the Premium 2WD has added comfort features like 4-way power lumbar adjustment and 4-way power adjustment of the front passenger seat with a boss switch. The front seats in both Proton X70 2024 variants are ventilated. The car also has an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power windows with anti-trap technology, auto dual-zone air conditioning, rear air vents, and air purifier system.

The center of the car houses an 8-inch touchscreen monitor that supports voice command, smartphone connectivity, and Bluetooth. The Executive AWD has 8 speakers, while the Premium 2WD has 9 speakers with a power amplifier and subwoofer. Both models have 1 USB port for data transfer and 5 USB ports for charging.

Proton X70 2024 Safety

The 2024 Proton X70 is equipped with numerous safety features, including 6 SRS airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, automatic brake hold, electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, tire pressure monitoring system, immobilizer, and anti-theft alarm. Both variants also come with front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. The X70 Premium 2WD goes a step further with an Advanced Driver Assist System, featuring autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot information system, door opening warning system, and intelligent high beam control.

Proton X70 2024 Engine

The 2024 Proton X70 is available in two variants, both powered by a 1.5 TGDI 1477cc engine that produces 177hp and a maximum torque of 255/1500-4000 Nm/rpm. Both versions come equipped with a 7-speed Dual Clutch transmission with manual mode, but the Executive AWD variant has an all-wheel drive system, while the Premium 2WD has a two-wheel drive system.

Proton X70 2024 Ride and Handling

The 2024 Proton X70 is a quiet and comfortable SUV to drive, with a smooth ride that minimizes both internal and external noise. Its suspension effectively absorbs road shocks and bumps. The engine is powerful enough and provides a steady drive even at high speeds, although there is some noticeable body roll. However, the vague steering detracts from the driving experience.

The Proton X70 2024 goes head to head with vehicles such as the KIA Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, MG HS, and DFSK Glory 580 Pro in the Pakistani market. Among its competitors, the MG HS is a formidable adversary, both cars being manufactured by Chinese automakers and offering similar features. However, the MG HS has more advanced features and a more powerful engine, but comes at a higher price point compared to the X70, making it less attractive to consumers. On the other hand, the Hyundai Tucson boasts premium features missing from the X70, but falls into a higher price range, making the Proton X70 a more cost-effective alternative.
