15K Teachers in Punjab to Receive Electric Bikes

In a pioneering move, the Punjab government has introduced a revolutionary program aimed at providing electric bikes to 15,000 teachers throughout the province. Spearheaded by Provincial Education Minister Sikandar Hayat, the initiative is set to unfold in three distinct phases. Initially, 5,000 teachers will be the beneficiaries of electric bikes, paving the way for an additional 10,000 educators to receive theirs in subsequent stages.

This bold decision to equip teachers with electric bikes is poised to alleviate the financial burden stemming from soaring petrol prices, thereby facilitating their daily commute to schools. By transitioning to electric bikes, teachers are expected to experience substantial savings on transportation expenses, a prospect that underscores the practicality and sustainability of the initiative. Minister Hayat is upbeat about the initiative's transformative potential, emphasizing its dual benefits of cost-efficiency and environmental preservation.

In a parallel endeavor, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a registration drive targeting university students, offering them 20,000 electric and petrol bikes across the province. The maiden phase of this initiative will see the distribution of 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 e-bikes to deserving students. To bolster this effort, the Punjab government has earmarked Rs1 billion to subsidize the markup and cover the initial Rs20,000 down payment for each bike on behalf of the students.

During this inaugural phase, bikes will be disbursed in key cities including Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. It's crucial to note that the deadline for application submissions is April 29th, underscoring the urgency and significance of this transformative initiative in enhancing accessibility and sustainability in transportation across Punjab's educational landscape.
